NKato nips at jminer’s heels. Eury comes out of nowhere and contends. Yours truly is pushed down into oblivion.

If we can break a billion points, we can place in the top 100 teams.

Looking at the numbers Eury puts down he’s going to be at the top of the pack very soon. Trampz is also going to be serious here.

This is a fun way to stave off some boredom and insanity - thanks for setting up the team and pumping it like this Rusty!

I am having a blast . Personally, I think we can get ourselves into the top 100 in relatively short order. We’re still accelerating and we’ve clocked something like 3 million points since I got up this morning. I plan on taking these snapshots on a regular basis and graphing some data. Ttyymmnn, my brother, is assembling a couple of Nibby-specified gaming towers for his twin sons and I think he’ll be bringing those to bear once they’re up and running . Big GPUs and big i7 processors.

I’m going to fall down a few more spots, especially as I throttled back my machine some for more reasonable long-term use, but I think I can stick around the upper half. Unless of course I bring in a ringer, which I may have ordered last night to pair with the new CPU that’s on its way. I guess my IRS bonus has ended up buying the new set of wheels for the Pajero and a new Ryzen 9 3900x and 5700xt that are coming my way.

The question now is do I go ahead and spent a few hundred more for enough parts to set up my current Ryzen 7 1700 and RX590 as a second machine to 24/7 folding/htpc/future camera system server...

I love it! It’s seriously making me think about building a new machine for my wife - because she does kind of need it. But also for folding!!!

I do definitely worry if Nibby gets involved we’ll all be left in the dust.  I used to have a ton of machines around that I could have put to use for this but recycled most of the lately.  Only got a few left now and am scrounging through what spare parts I have left to fire up more!

I’ve gotten all of 1 work unit today. It was a 28.8k point work unit but still. I might turn my CPU back on and let MSI’s shitty VRs burn so I have an excuse to move to a Gigabyte board.

I’ m trying, I’m trying. Do ubt I’ll get to the top though. My system doesn’t seem to pull down work units very well, it’ll sit there waiting for hours for the GPU to get something, and then rip through it once it does only to sit again. It’s working on a WU worth 99216 points no, takes it about 2hr, but then it’ll sit forever waiting for another.

I want team Oppo to dominate, and I’m willing to donate my compute power to the cause! Viva la Oppo!

How long have you been online? It took a day or several for the server to keep my machine fed. I think it may use an algorithm to sort out what a particular machine is capable of and then dish accordingly.

When I woke up this morning, both mine and my son’s systems had been trying to get WUs for the GPUs for 4-5hr. That’s 250-300k missed.

Yep, I’ve been meaning to install on my render machines but even just on this machine with 1 1080 it’s dodgy if I get 2-3 WU’s a day right now. I think I could do 1-1.2m points a day if there were WU’s to crunch with just this machine alone.

I have disabled CPU folding, I went weeks without getting a WU for the 12 cores I had (I heard they prefer multiples of 6 so instead of letting it use 13/14/15 of the 16 cores I manually set it to 12..)

Good problem to have though, hopefully we’re all generating answers to some tough questions.

My CPU seems to get WUs much more reliably than the GPUs for some reason. They aren’t worth much, but at least it gets them.

Thanks to the IRS bonus, I basically just bought my birthday present (s) a bit early. Ordered a new 1440p/144hz monitor too, because my current 1080p 90hz isn’t going to do be able to leverage anything extra out of the new gpu and cpu.

Perhaps I’m going to have to restart. I can’t seem to get the web control up, and whilst my cooling fans are spinning away the CPU usage seems to be minimal on the Xeon. When I came downstairs this morning the i7 wasn’t doing anything, and that came as a bit of a surprise. It’s 45 degrees outside and I had been hoping to come down to a nice toasty warm room.

I do need a little clarification on the relationship between credits and WUs. And points - where do they fit in on this? I only started last night, using my two most powerful machines, so perhaps there’s not much of a history to go by, but I want to do whatever I can to help our team. And the researchers, of course...

My theory is that the points are related only to the amount of work done in total, and the WUs vary in size according to the capability of the particular machine. So you might earn half a zillion points on 4 WUs, while the next guy finishes 7 WUs and gets like 10,000 points. I also surmise that the server does some assessment of your machine to figure out what it’s capable of turning out. I think it takes a day or several for a given machine to get up to its full potential.

I was on the Linus team for the last few days but saw the post here and thought I’d hop over.

I hadn’t folded since about 2011 and the GPU power is nuts now - in 2011-ish I did 1148 WU and got 1.8 million points, now I’ve done 122 WU for 13 million on my 2070 super.

I’ve found you can pause your system for 20ish minutes and start up again and get a WU quicker than waiting for it to retry for hours and hours.  sometimes I wake up and its been trying to get a WU for 8 hours and then within 20 min of restarting I’m back up cranking away.

You can have multiple boxes under the same identity. jminer has like an entire bitcoin mining server farm going, which is causing NKato to work up a sweat trying to keep up.

Same - been running on the Linus team for a while but this is more fun. I’ve got a couple Ryzen 5 boards with a 1050 and a RX 5700 so decent power but nothing too exciting.

GPU computing is one of those things that has gotten amazing these last few years with the evolution of Cuda and AI.

OK 12 Cores got a WU right away and a slight bump in the voltage offset seems to make things stable in this work load at 4ghz on the OG Ryzen 1700. Moar folding!
